Working at James W. Smith...
I am very excited about the 2016-2017 school year as I embark on my seventh year with the staff, students and community of JWS! As a member of the instructional support team here at James W. Smith, I hope to add a platform which is centered around student inquiry-based learning focusing on meaningful exploration, stimulating authentic tasks, real-world problem solving, and cooperative learning. I plan to support our JWS teachers in the recognition and nurturing of student potential in order to improve academic achievement. By providing access to 21st Century educational experiences and blended learning opportunities, the achievement gap in this diverse community can be closed. As a Title I School, we utilize federal funds to improve academic achievement of our students.
About Mrs. B...
My undergraduate study was completed at Longwood University in Virginia. I have a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from Eastern Carolina University. We moved to North Carolina from the mountains of West Virginia in 2001 to enjoy the natural beauty of the ocean a little more. I live in the small town of Bridgeton with my husband of 27 years. Bill is the Lead Academic Advisor at Craven Community College. Our youngest daughter, River, is a sophomore at UNCW studying Spanish and Communications. Our middle daughter, Sierra, recently graduated from the Nursing Program at CCC and is a Nurse at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Our oldest daughter, Bethany, teaches Theatre and English at WCHS and resides close by with her husband Drew. We were blessed with a beautiful granddaughter, Caiden Rose last year and are enjoying the grand-parenting scene! When at home, we love to be outdoors and spend a great deal of time at our pond with our poodle "Waffles", Yorkie "Oliver", 12 slider turtles and a bunch of bullfrogs!
